Slight schizophrenia is our default state of being.
The battle between reason and sentiment is raging in us from birth to (as far as we can ascertain) death.
So what? Only by becoming conscious of our suffering we can evolve (reduce the reason - feeling gap) and thus also eliminate our suffering.
Life is a paradox: we must suffer in order to reduce suffering.
With this sense, we can say that Buddhism only tells one side of the story. While desire results in suffering, it also enables us to become conscious of this pain and open the path to eliminating it.
