Best Free Online Movie Streaming Sites

Now that there are so many streaming services,

uwatchfree watch online

is easier than ever. But the costs add up quickly, whether you use Sky or a streaming service like Netflix, unless you can find places to stream movies online for free.

Some services, like Amazon Prime Video, NOW, etc., offer free trials for a limited time. This is nice, but it’s not really free.

There are also a lot of totally free movie websites. Yes, you can stream movies for free these days, and we’re not just talking about old classics from 100 years ago. You can even find recent blockbusters to stream for free.

And we’re not talking about illegal torrents and piracy sites. All of the free streaming movie services we’re going to list here are completely legal. Be careful when you search online. Many sites will send you to sketchy places that not only stream illegal content but also bombard you with spam and pop-up windows. (In general, if something seems too good to be true, like the latest Hollywood hits being offered “for free,” it probably is.

And finally, as of this writing, all of the services on this page work in the UK. However, there are many free streaming services, like Tubi, Vudo, and others, that only work in the US (though there are workarounds for that). So we took the time to look through the ones that work on our side of the pond to give you the definitive list of the best free movie streaming sites in the UK.

One last thing: most of these work right in your browser, but some, like the Roku Channel, need a special app or device. We’ll put a note about this on the site’s page.

Channel 4 Films

Channel 4, a commercial channel that is free to watch, is a great place to find great movies. Not only that, but they also help make movies through their Film4 company. Most of the time, you can watch Channel 4 live through Freeview. You can also watch it whenever you want through the “All4” service. The All4 streaming service is completely free. You just need to sign up, and then you can watch it on your browser or through an app, which is available for most streaming devices and mobile phones in the UK. The one bad thing? There are times when ads play. The movies in the Film section of All4 are always changing, from romantic comedies to thrillers to dramas and everything in between. Even though you probably won’t find the latest big hits, there are some real classics and a few hidden gems.

BBC iPlayer Films

The BBC’s on-demand player, BBC iPlayer, has a lot of great content. It’s both a way to watch movies and TV shows that have already aired on the BBC and a library of interesting things to watch whenever you want. Yes, it’s all free, but you do have to pay an annual TV licence fee. All you have to do is sign up for an account. You can either watch the movies right in your browser or through the BBC iPlayer app (which is available practically everywhere). The list of free movies you can stream online is always changing, but it includes both old movies and recent Hollywood hits (though usually not very recent ones). As I write this, they’re giving away Paddington 2, Gravity, The Revenant, Looper, and many more movies for free (and without ads!). That’s quite a collection.

My5 Films

Channel 5 is another commercial channel that you can watch for free on Freeview. It also has a service called My5 that lets you watch shows whenever you want. It’s free, but there are ads, and all you have to do is sign up for an account. Then, you can stream the movies directly from the website or through the app, which is available on many streaming devices. Pluto TV Movies, another streaming TV company owned by ViacomCBS, provides many of My5’s free on-demand movies (which owns Channel 5). Most of the movies are ones you’ve never heard of, but there are a few hidden gems and some old Hollywood hits as well.

The Internet Archive – Feature Films

The Internet Archive is a free digital library with a huge collection of digital books, games, old websites, and movies. All of the free movies you can stream on the Internet Archive are in the Public Domain, which means that most of them are pretty old. But there are a lot of real classics and weird titles you’ve never heard of. As of this writing, they have more than 6,500 free movies, both long ones and short ones, in categories like Sci-Fi, Horror, Comedy, Film Noir, and more. There are also a few collections that have been put together by experts to help you find those hidden gems. You can watch the movies online for free right from the website, or you can download them to your computer and watch them on the playtubes.
