The Hady ritual of Hajj

Among the necessary rituals of the Hajj pilgrimage, Hady is a significant one. In fact, the Hajj pilgrimage is incomplete without the performance of the Hady ritual. It’s among the final rites of hajj pilgrimage in which pilgrims who have arrived for holy rituals, sacrifice an animal in the path of Allah Almighty. For all the pilgrims arriving in the region with cheap umrah packages 2022, the cost of Hady is usually included because as said earlier, without the performance of this ritual the hajj is incomplete.

Meaning of Hady.

Hady is a word of Arabic origin and is also known as ‘Damm-al-Shukr’ for the religious concept of Hajj. For a pilgrim, Hady remains a source of expressing one’s gratitude to Allah Almighty for having been blessed with the ability to undertake the sacred journey of Hajj and Umrah at the same time.

For Hady, pilgrims sacrifice an animal on the 10th day of Dhu-al-Hijjah. Remember that Hady remains a Wajib ritual for those pilgrims performing Hajj-al-Tamattu and Hajj-al-Qiran while it’s a sunnah act for those pilgrims performing Hajj-al-Ifrad.

Historical view of Hady.

The ritual of Hady is observed in the remembrance of the great sunnah of Prophet Ibrahim’s (AS) willingness to sacrifice his son Ismail (AS) at Allah’s command. As Hazrat Ibrahim (AS) was preparing for the sacrifice of his son in the path of Allah Almighty, miraculously, a sacrificial animal was provided as a substitute at the last moment. As it was a test for him (AS) by Allah almighty and surely Hazrat Ibrahim (AS) succeeded in it.

So, to celebrate such an act of bravery and obedience, millions of Muslims across the globe sacrifice an animal whether they are on the hajj pilgrimage (in the form of Hady) or not (in the form of Qurbani). The occasion is also commonly known as Eid-al-Adha among Muslims.

Animals that can be used for Hady.

The sacrificial animals devoted to the Hady must be treated in the best possible manner and should be of a certain age before they can be slaughtered.

• Camel; 5 years or older. • Cow/Buffalo/Ox/Bull; 2 years or older. • Ram/Goat; 1 year or older. • Sheep; 6 months or 1 year.

• Disability (of any kind). • Visible sickness or injury. • Emaciated/infirm. • Injured e.g., its limbs, horns, or teeth are broken.

A pilgrim can perform Hady by sacrificing a sheep or goat individually or he/she can join up with six other pilgrims (making seven in total) where each buys a share in a camel or a cow.

When and where to perform Hady?

Hady ritual must be performed before the pilgrim’s hair is cut. It remains evident from the hadith of Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (SAWW) that Hady can only take place either in Mina or Makkah city.
