UEFF - An idea that stuck

I'm a huge football (soccer) fan. I played myself for years, and since I was a little child I played every football video game there was. As I grew older, I stepped away from the physical game do to injury and also stepped back from playing FIFA/PES. I found myself enjoying manager games more and more, but after years I came to a realization: Almost every year I found myself having the same teams/players on top and it took like 20/30 years in-game to make those dominating players disappear and even longer for the top teams to drop down a bit to make place for others.

This little fact annoyed me so heavily, that I spent hundreds of hours in editors to make the games more interesting to play. Around the same time I came across Warhammer: Blood Bowl .

It was interesting to see how every race is viable to play and requires tactical knowledge. Problem was, it was damn complicated to play and I had no one to play with. So I bought the PC version of it and enjoyed that for a while.

Since I'm not that much into american football, I struggled a bit with the concept, even tho I know all the rules. I just enjoy association football more, Blood Bowl has no fault there.

An idea came up, Blood Bowl but in association football, and this idea never went away. I'm someone that can put out ideas in minutes, but being never able to make something out of it followed me my whole life.

I finally had enough of my own fears and started working on a fantasy world called Eondra. I built the story, nations, cities, races and a reason for them playing football (or as they call in in Eondra, Footorb). With it, I made the UEFF - United Eondra Footorb Federation.

Happy with my result I started to look for a game that I can put this world into. Since I'm a big open source guy, I decided to go with ysoccer. I created a script to automate the process of making teams and players for the game and played around with ideas. In the end, I even made 2 videos with the help of some awesome people.

I thought I was were I wanted it to be, but I soon faced limitation. ysoccer is great, don't get me wrong, but it has its limitations. My Java knowledge isn't as good as to code the things myself and even if, the recording and editing of my vision just takes too long for a hobby project.

Couple weeks ago, when I cleaned my cupboards, I found my old Subbuteo game. I wanted to play it with my girlfriend, but the game was simply not for her. The reason was that we played on the floor and she had to crawl along with the action that was happening.

This brings us to the present. Instead of having the games being played in ysoccer, I'd like to code my own simulator in the style of Blood Bowl. So I started to think about the board design, rules and so on. Since I want this to be like Blood Bowl but with football rules, I started to create a Tabletop game that will be the base of my simulator.

So far I have some basic ideas down on paper and will play test with my girlfriend tomorrow. I hope I'm not the only one liking this idea.
