I honestly think the fediverse is a fantastic idea. With Peertube, Mastodon, Plume and Prismo, I can't help but feel like we might actually compete with web giants who don't care much for respecting the end user. There's just a few issues that sorta bother me.
Peertube is amazing. I love the idea of a bunch of little instances grouping together to take on a huge giant, and with 80 something thousand videos, which is a little more than 0.002% the size of Youtube the last I checked, we're doing pretty amazing. The issue for me is, despite our size, there's nothing I want to watch on there. Believe me, I looked. I just can't find much on there. I think a part of it comes from our youth, we're awfully young so we can't expect much, but I figured there aught to be a single channel I'd like to subscribe to. The other thing is, there doesn't seem to be much momentum from English speakers. I've got a feeling that, after checking out the fediverse and deciding they weren't interested due to the lack of content, a lot of English speakers decided they'll check up on it years later when it's ready. My perception on this is that we're ready now. If you can't find any content worth watching, you aught to create some or keep looking. My answer to this has been to upload some of the videos I watch from Youtube onto Peertube, though I feel as though I'm not doing good enough. I tried making original content, but that failed miserably.
Mastodon is wonderful as well, but I never really liked Twitter. Naturally, I don't like Mastodon either. This is more of a personal issue, so please do take my words with a grain of sand but I genuinely can't find anyone I want to subscribe to. I just don't see the appeal.
Prismo is something special. I love Reddit, and I'd love to participate with Prismo. It's a fantasy come true. A Reddit that respects its users. Too bad I can't really use it until it either reaches 1.0 or until I financially support it. Granted, financially supporting something is the best possible way to driving the FLOSS world to greatness, but I'm not in a financially comfortable situation right now. Granted, I'm sure Prismo will be my new favourite thing when everyone can use it, but as it stands, the posts are okay sometimes. I can't wait until it's available though.
Now Plume. I've only just discovered it, but I think I've found out how I can contribute good content to the fediverse. I've never been much of a blogger, but I've read some great blog posts in my time. I'm hoping I may be the answer when someone asks, "who's worth subscribing to on the fediverse?" at least until someone does what I do better.
tl;dr: The fediverse is cool but it doesn't have what I want so I started a blog on the fediverse in the hopes to be the thing that other people are looking for in the fediverse.
PS. If you know of any awesome people on here, do let me know. Same if you have any tips, ideas or criticisms. I hope to make this blog about tech stuff, since everyone on the fediverse loves tech, but I'll definitely sneak in posts about food, culture, health, anecdotes and nerdy things. I'll try to post at least once a month. Thanks for reading!

Wonderful post ! I'm new in the fediverse, and i just love the idea of decentralised services with no privacy issues or massive ads.
First time I heard about the fediverse was some days ago when Google plus announced the end of their social service. I discovered diaspora. I thought it was something new.
From there I started reading about this network and ended here.
I'm a photographer, I was publishing most of my artwork on Facebook and Instagram for years. More than a year ago I become aware of the dangers of fb and other web giants.
I still have a Facebook page now. With 500+ publications and 34k fans. I'm starting to republish all my artwork on the fediverse. A blog service as plume seems like the best solution for me now. Too bad there is not an Instagram alternative.
I think that users will follow content creators, where ever they go. I'm all in this new adventure, if just 10 of my followers join the fediverse I will consider that as a win.
Thank you again for this excellent post.
Ps: excuse my English I only speak good French.

@@Photographia Thanks for your reply! It must be very hard to move away from Facebook, where you know you have such a huge following, and move to a smaller service. I hope the move goes well. As for an Instagram alternative, you might be interested in something called PixelFed. I've never used either PixelFed or Instagram, so I can't easily say if it's similar, but it might be what you're looking for. It's pretty new.
I think there's an interesting balance. Users go where there are content creators and content creators go to where there are users. It does really seem that it's up to us as users and creators to make the better choices, because we can't expect everyone to move to the Fediverse if no one else is there.
You're very welcome, by the way! I'm just very glad people actually liked it as much as they have. I hope they like my next posts too haha. I honestly couldn't tell that you aren't a native English speaker until you mentioned it. Very well written.

@@trashaggregate Maybe it's hard to move from Facebook to a smaller social network, but i think that smaller communities, means higher chance to reach interesting persons to interact with. I remember my first days on instagram, there was not as much persons as now, and i had much more fun at that time.
The fediverse is an excellent opportunity for content creators, most of us struggle to have a good visibility on mainstream social network. Now it's Pay to play, if you don't sponsor your publication you can't even reach 10% of your followers.
So yes, i believe in this project, and i'm sure that it's the right direction that internet should take.
Btw, plume need a notification system but i guess it's still work in progress.

@@Photographia That's a very good point. I really hate how everything needs to be sponsored now. I really do agree that this is the direction the internet should be going. I really hope the Fediverse becomes big. Notifications would make things a lot easier haha.
