The fediverse needs more click-worthy content

Why I started this blog

I honestly think the fediverse is a fantastic idea. With Peertube, Mastodon, Plume and Prismo, I can't help but feel like we might actually compete with web giants who don't care much for respecting the end user. There's just a few issues that sorta bother me.

Peertube is amazing. I love the idea of a bunch of little instances grouping together to take on a huge giant, and with 80 something thousand videos, which is a little more than 0.002% the size of Youtube the last I checked, we're doing pretty amazing. The issue for me is, despite our size, there's nothing I want to watch on there. Believe me, I looked. I just can't find much on there. I think a part of it comes from our youth, we're awfully young so we can't expect much, but I figured there aught to be a single channel I'd like to subscribe to. The other thing is, there doesn't seem to be much momentum from English speakers. I've got a feeling that, after checking out the fediverse and deciding they weren't interested due to the lack of content, a lot of English speakers decided they'll check up on it years later when it's ready. My perception on this is that we're ready now. If you can't find any content worth watching, you aught to create some or keep looking. My answer to this has been to upload some of the videos I watch from Youtube onto Peertube, though I feel as though I'm not doing good enough. I tried making original content, but that failed miserably.

Mastodon is wonderful as well, but I never really liked Twitter. Naturally, I don't like Mastodon either. This is more of a personal issue, so please do take my words with a grain of sand but I genuinely can't find anyone I want to subscribe to. I just don't see the appeal.

Prismo is something special. I love Reddit, and I'd love to participate with Prismo. It's a fantasy come true. A Reddit that respects its users. Too bad I can't really use it until it either reaches 1.0 or until I financially support it. Granted, financially supporting something is the best possible way to driving the FLOSS world to greatness, but I'm not in a financially comfortable situation right now. Granted, I'm sure Prismo will be my new favourite thing when everyone can use it, but as it stands, the posts are okay sometimes. I can't wait until it's available though.

Now Plume. I've only just discovered it, but I think I've found out how I can contribute good content to the fediverse. I've never been much of a blogger, but I've read some great blog posts in my time. I'm hoping I may be the answer when someone asks, "who's worth subscribing to on the fediverse?" at least until someone does what I do better.

tl;dr: The fediverse is cool but it doesn't have what I want so I started a blog on the fediverse in the hopes to be the thing that other people are looking for in the fediverse.

PS. If you know of any awesome people on here, do let me know. Same if you have any tips, ideas or criticisms. I hope to make this blog about tech stuff, since everyone on the fediverse loves tech, but I'll definitely sneak in posts about food, culture, health, anecdotes and nerdy things. I'll try to post at least once a month. Thanks for reading!
