Thank you, Damien Grant, for your white, male, cishet opinion on why combating hate speech is pointless. He's no doubt afraid that one day someone will infringe his freedom of speech by coming and taking away his fireworks, or something equally traumatic and important.

Also...

From the article: "At the moment is it easy to dismiss the free-speech concerns of conspiracy theorist Alex Jones and the antisemitic Louis Farrakhan, both were recently removed from Facebook. After all the firm is a private outfit and these good folks have other means of expression."

"These good folk"? The guy you just called antisemitic is "good folk"? Do these people even try to hide whose side they're on? He'd probably say he was 'speaking ironically' and that he's free to make bad jokes--which is a common right-wing tactic for saying whatever bigoted thing you want and then pretending you didn't mean it.

Thanks for spreading this guy's BS, Stuff. Freedom of speech means he has the right to be signal boosted by a big, trusted platform like yours, doesn't it?

Oh, wait: no it doesn't.

The more I learn about Damien Grant, the more I shake my head at Stuff.co.nz hosting the steaming piles of words he produces.
