I'm from Brazil, the country of samba, carnival, and football/soccer. We are known as a receptive country. But this is a lie. We are not receptive, only if you're white and European/Canadian/American. We are violent with our neighbors.
We just elected a president who plays with the idea of attacking Venezuela, a country that is already going bad on its own. The sensation is that our new rulers are thirsty for blood. I'm afraid of what might come.
The thing is that I want us to be the country of samba, carnival and football. I want us to be the receptive country people believe us to be. And now, because I believe in that, I might have to leave my country. Because I don't want to attack Venezuelans, because I don't want LGBTQ+ suffering, because I'm not willing to give up my rights as a worker, because of all that I'm now the enemy of the elected president.
And as he said in one of his threatening speeches he will make everything in order to arrest or exile me and my comrades. And for a guy who praises police violence and wants to give legal backing for cops to kill on duty, for a guy who praises torture and is a fanboy of the most famous torturer in Brazil's history, that means a lot.
I'm afraid of what might come. For the first time, I want a politician not to keep his promises. I wish I could end in a positive tone but I guess now its time to mourn for our country, we need this. Please forgive me if I'm not hopeful.
Just remember me for I still exist. And I will make noise while I can.
