Being(ongoing)

What is being. Why do we ask that question. Are we asking the right question. Is being definable.

Most people take the term "being" for granted and dismiss the concept or idea of being as already solved. Heidegger says otherwise. He argues we are not asking the right question. Before we get into that lets first see how we have already prejudiced against the idea of being. We have basically tried to put it in categories which cannot contain it. For eg - Is it a genus, no it is not, Being is not a clearly defined category because its characteristics are obscure and cannot be represented properly. That was a bottom's up approach. Lets try a top-down approach, can Being be derived from higher concepts. The answer is no as well because it lacks transparent definition.

What does Heidegger means by asking the right question. Questioning something is seeking. We are therefore beings who seeks. So what do we say about beings who seek the meaning of Being. So is that a not a mode of being in itself - A being who seeks the meaning of Being. Of course with this the meaning is not explained but a A priori preliminary structure is formed which acts as a helpful guideline in investigating the meaning of being. To explain Being, Heidegger uses the term "Dasein" which means "being there". Dasein is a mode of being where the being, who is us, questions the meaning of being. The very pattern of being or you asking the meaning of being is a type of or mode of Being which can help us understand the meaning of Being.
