New Year, New Opportunities

"New Year's Day. A fresh start. A new chapter in life waiting to be written. New questions to be asked, embraced, and loved. Answers to be discovered and then lived in this transformative year of delight and self-discovery. Today carve out a quiet interlude for yourself in which to dream, pen in hand. Only dreams give birth to change."

~ Sarah Ban Breathnach

Up until the last week of 2018, I didn't know what I was going to do with an entire new year before me. I had forgotten all of the things I had accomplished in the past year and had become stuck in cycle of negativity due mainly to our current political issues, financial issues, and the realization that I didn't achieve my goals for 2018. Getting unstuck took a lot of work and if you, like me have felt less than spectacular lately you may need to get unstuck too. ...

How to Get Unstuck:

  • Write a list of things you did accomplish in the past year, anything and everything should be included. Now read it back it to yourself. You did all of those amazing things.

  • Write a list of goals for the new year. Sprinkle this with fun challenges you can do weekly or monthly. Don't be worried if the list is huge and don't make this a "to do" list. We are not writing resolutions or lists of things we have to do. ...

  • Plan fun things to do in the new year. Visit a museum. Check out a new exhibit. Take a short course in photography. Go to that Earth Day festival you've been eyeing for the past two years.

  • Put your new events on a calendar. You now have something to look forward to.

That's it, the problem with being stuck is we forget to have fun, to look forward to things, to be happy. ... Instead we get stuck thinking about all the things wrong in the world and we freeze. Even commitments can freeze us in our tracks, but it's easy to dig yourself out, once you realize that you are not looking forward but are stuck in place.
