Iran, Protests, and Hostages

I want to talk to you, only for a few minutes, about Iran.

This is a letter sent to a brother in Nazi Germany, from hiding:

"Don't worry about us, we are in good health. You too must be strong and patient. We have to stay in hiding, it's not safe outside. One day this will come to an end, then we shall meet again.

Devastating, right? "

And this is a WhatsApp chat I had with my 19 years old brother

"The Internet has been down, it's hard to get a connection. I found out that some places like banks still have a connection, but it is monitored and slow. "

I asked if mom and dad were okay, and that to tell mom to answer if someone with an international phone called, it would be me.

"We are okay. Mom insists that you don't try to call us. We are healthy, don't worry about us. Be patient, we will talk once this is over."

I told him to be safe, I told him there is protesting, and then there is being foolish. He wrote back:

"Don't worry, it's not like I can do anything. The university's security locked us in until 9pm last night and then forced us to go to the dorms. I tried going back home, there weren't any buses and they didn't allow me to go on my own. I heard a few gunfires but other than that, it's been quiet around here. "

Hundreds of innocent people have been killed. Thousands arrested. The internet is normally censored in Iran, but now it is disconnected. And there is no media coverage. Why is it that the world only sanctions people of Iran? They impose travel bans, financial blocking, and even won't allow vital medicine, how does that help the people of Iran? Every news agency reported the JCPA and Iran's deal, but they remain silent when people are killed in the streets? Is it because one affects the price of oil and the other doesn't? Are we not human enough? If the west remains silent, the Islamic regime would learn that it's okay to kill and arrest those who protest.

Iranians are disconnected from the world, be their voice.
