At the start of this project, I talked about how the difficulty didn't really matter, because I'm doing this to learn, so time doesn't matter. It turns out that isn't completely true, Perhaps something a little bit more obtainable will help me get my feet under me before I take on anything so big.
I don't regret the time I spent working on the engine for StarTrace (Which I decided to call the C*Star! game engine), and I certainly did learn things, but the learning curve of such an ambitious project makes it almost impossible to continue. Not that it can't be done, but I just feel right now that something easier would make learning easier too. Thus I've decided to work on a 2.5D game engine instead. At least for now.
I call this new game engine Starlite! It will be a raycasting engine similar to that of games like Wolfenstein 3D. I have some ideas for modifications and enhancements that should make for a more 3D look than that of traditional 2.5D raycasting engine. I will hopefully provide more detailed information soon.
Any help or suggestions appreciated,
Thanks!
