I made this blog because twitter is a shitty space to put complex rambling thoughts. I’m not good at writing and a lot of this will probably be terribly unfocused at first, but gotta start somewhere. The continuing degradation of the climate and discovering the idea of lunarpunk is what inspired me to explore these thoughts. I was specifically inspired by a couple podcasts like the Intergalactic Railroad and Theft of Moon. I’ve also read some Bookchin and Ocalan, though I should read more, and am given hope by the revolution in Rojava and the practice of democratic confederalism.
In essence, as things worsen, Earth is becoming Moon. As in, Earth is becoming more inhospitable. This can be literal, as in areas that are undergoing extreme wildfires or desertification, as well as metaphorical, such as how hard capitalist modernity makes it to create strong towns or do anything that is not profitable under the current system. I do not want to be a doomer with these ideas, in my opinion one of the worst things I see happening is people becoming aware of how fucked things are and giving up. The individualist attitude of “they already ruined it, just have fun until the end” will do nothing to help people. Instead I think we should realize how specifically things are changing and explore ideas on how to adapt and build communities that are stronger and able to make it through what is to come. Things will definitely get worse, and the current system of permanent capitalistic growth is unsustainable. We must explore new ways of doing things; more democratic, ecological, accessible systems and communities.
I’ll have a lot of thoughts on different things in this blog. I don’t have a schedule, I’ll write when I feel like it. I’d love to hear comments and suggestions and start a conversation. I just hope to try and add to a perspective that will hopefully motivate people to take action and help prepare their communities and care for each other.
