DNS Servers are the services that translate the domain names (such as “fediverse.blog”) and web links that we enter in our web browsers into their corresponding public IP addresses.
Our ISPs automatically assigns their own DNS server to the service, but more often than not, using alternative DNS Servers provide better service, and sometimes a bit of privacy.
Free and Public DNS Servers (Primary / Secondary):
-
Cloudfare 1.1.1.1 / 1.0.0.1
-
Quad9 9.9.9.9 / 149.112.112.112
-
Google 8.8.8.8 / 8.8.4.4

These are the ones I usually use and recommend
@cedled@fediverse.blog I used Cloudflare yesterday when I realized that the PLDT slowdown seemed like a DNS issue. I found the recommendation on Reddit, so I tried it, and it worked for me, I was able to access Google sites and Gmail again.

@pixiecata @cedled@fediverse.blog Nice! Cloudfare is nice and fast. Quad9 is great too.
I think there was a submerged cable problem that affected PLDT recently. Maybe their DNS servers where riding on that cable.
